Unity Cup 2025: Brentford’s Gtech Community Stadium to host Afro-Carribean tournament

Brentford’s Gtech Community Stadium has been announced as the host venue for the Unity Cup 2025 tournament, Afrosport reports.

The Afro-Carribean competition is making a return after 21 years and will feature the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Black Stars of Ghana as well as the Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago national teams.

Tournament organisers, Afrosport, through its chief consultant, Rotimi Pedro, thanked Brentford for providing their stadium to celebrate African and Caribbean heritage.

“We are proud to bring back the Unity Cup. It’s been a long journey to revive this important community event, and we’re delighted that fans of African and Caribbean football will once again enjoy top-tier international football at Unity Cup 2025,” he said.

“We are grateful to Brentford FC for providing a home at the Gtech Community Stadium and look forward to what, even after 20 years, remains a cultural moment for many who attended previous Unity Cup tournaments.

“Unity Cup 2025 is a week-long celebration of our interconnected culture in food, music and comedy anchored around elite footballing talents from our home nations.”

Afrosport co-director Andy Howes stated that the Unity Cup was beyond a sports event and is a reflection of the growth of Black football.

“The Unity Cup is a tournament that really does evoke the often-used phrase of an event that goes ‘beyond sport’,” he said.

“But with the array of elite stars, and profile of the teams involved, this event is not only important in terms of its cultural significance but also is a reflection of the growing commercial importance of African and Caribbean football as well as the growing demographic of Black football fans within English football.”

The Unity Cup 2025 tournament will take place from May 27 to 31. Two semifinal matches will kick off the tournament, with Jamaica to take on Trinidad and Tobago in the first game before an all-West African affair between the Super Eagles and Ghana.

Meanwhile, the final and third-place match will be played on the same day on 31 May.
