Gian Piero Gasperini has admitted he had Ademola Lookman was substituted off in the Serie A defeat to Lazio on Sunday due to a misunderstanding, Afrosport reports.
La Dea suffered a 1-0 loss at the Gewiss Stadium, their seventh defeat of the season and fourth at home.
Lookman was taken off in the 74th minute and replaced by Lazar Samardzic and Gasperini revealed it was Ederson that was supposed to be taken off but there was a mix up due to nicknames of both players, Lookman being called ‘Ade’ and Ederson being called ‘Ede’.
“There was a mistake. Only Retegui was subbed to come off,” the Italian tactician said.
“Unfortunately, there was a misunderstanding between ‘Ede’ [Ederson] and ‘Ade’ [Lookman] and we paid a high price for it.”
3 & 0 – #Atalanta have lost at least three #SerieA games in a row without scoring for the first time since September-October 2014, under Stefano Colantuono (four in that case). Darkness.#AtalantaLazio

The departure of Lookman failed to make Atalanta find their way back and now find themselves 10 points behind Inter Milan in the race for the Scudetto with seven games left to end the season.
