Onuachu disappointed despite scoring first Southampton goal at St. Mary’s

‘He always gives his 100%’ – Galatasaray’s Akgun waxes lyrical about Osimhen

Paul Onuachu says he is disappointed despite scoring his first Southampton goal at St. Mary’s in Saturday’s Premier League match with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Afrosport reports.

The Nigerian forward scored a consolation goal after Jorgen Strand Larsen netted a brace in either half for Wolves.

The 2-1 defeat was the 24th loss in 29 league games for Southampton this season and leaves them rooted to the bottom of the table with just nine points, 17 points away from safety.

“It’s difficult scoring my first goal in front of the [home] fans and we’re losing, it’s not good enough and we need to do better as a team and individually,” Onuachu told the club website.

“We had a good start in the first 20 minutes but it’s difficult to explain this loss because we’re playing on our home ground and we had the feeling we were going to beat Wolves. You could see we were the better team, even though we lost. It’s just not good enough.

“For the fans, for the team it’s good to get the goal, but we lost, I’m not really pleased because we have to win this game and it’s very disappointing.”

Onuachu has now scored three goals and provided one assist in 19 league games this season.
