Former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president Amaju Pinnick has lost his bid for re-election into the FIFA Council, Afrosport reports.
Pinnick, who has served on the FIFA Council since 2021, lost by one vote at the 14th Confederation of African Football (CAF) Extraordinary General Assembly in Cairo on Wednesday, losing to Djibouti’s Souleiman Waberi.
Waberi, who clinched the final available ticket with 29 votes, edged out Pinnick, who managed 28 votes, as one of the six African representatives on the FIFA Council.
Fouzi Lekjaa of Morocco retained his seat, topping the election with 49 votes, while Egyptian Haby Abo Rida, who also retained his place, and Hamidou Djibrilla Hima from Niger followed suit with 35 votes apiece.
Mauritania’s Ahmed Yahya (29 votes), alongside Kanizat Ibrahim from Comoros, also won their respective elections to be elected for the first time.
In the women’s category, Comoros’ Ibrahim clinched the seat with 30 votes, beating out Lydia Nsekera (13 votes) and Isha Johansen (7 votes).
