Tiger Woods out indefinitely after surgery for ruptured Achilles tendon

Golf great Tiger Woods on Tuesday revealed he had undergone surgery to repair a ruptured left Achilles tendon in his left leg, Afrosport reports.

Wood, who will be sidelined indefinitely, has not played on the PGA Tour since the 2024 Open last July and is unsure if he will feature in the 2025 Masters, the first major championship of the season, with just a month to the event.

“As I began to ramp up my own training and practice at home, I felt a sharp pain in my left Achilles, which was deemed to be ruptured,” Woods revealed in a post on X. “This morning, Dr. Charlton Stucken of Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Florida performed a minimally-invasive Achilles tendon repair for a ruptured tendon.

“‘The surgery went smoothly, and we expect a full recovery,’ added Dr. Stucken. I am back home now and plan to focus on my recovery and rehab, thank you for all the support.”

The 49-year-old, however, did not include a timeline for his return, but typically, ruptured Achilles takes several months to heal. This means he might miss the entire season.

The 15-time major champion was initially expected to play in the 2025 Genesis Invitational hosted by him at Torrey Pines, but he pulled out three days later, having cited the death of his mother, Kutilda, as the reason for his decision.

Earlier this year, he played in the TGL indoor simulator league he co-founded with Rory McIlroy.

Since turning pro, Woods has never missed the cut in the Masters at Augusta National. However, this would appear to be his second non-appearance at the tournament since 2017.

He finished 60th at the Masters last year and missed the cut in the year’s other three majors.
