2026 WCQ: Blow for Senegal as Diarra, Diouf ruled out of Sudan, Togo games

Senegal will be without the duo of Malick Diouf and Habib Diarra for their upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifying fixtures against Sudan and Togo this month, Afrosport reports.

Slavia Prague defender Diouf will be sidelined for at least three weeks, having sustained an injury in their match against rivals Sparta Prague on Saturday, 8 March.

The 20-year-old has reportedly suffered a fractured fibula following a dangerous challenge from Sparta Prague’s Nigerian defender Emmanuel Uchenna and was replaced by Slovakian forward Ivan Schranz in the 18th minute.

“There’s nothing you can do, injuries are unfortunately part of sport,” the defender told the club website. “I’ll do everything I can to get back as soon as possible and help the boys achieve the goal we have and are fully pursuing. Saturday’s unsuccessful match doesn’t change that.”

Diarra, meanwhile, will be sidelined for three weeks due to an ankle sprain he suffered during their 1-0 win at Auxerre on 2 March.

Strasbourg boss Liam Rosenior says he expects the 21-year-old midfielder back for their game against Lyon on 28 March.

The two Senegalese stars will be absent from Pape Thiaw’s squad for the upcoming qualifiers, with the Teranga Lions set to head to Sudan on 22 March before hosting Togo three days later.

Senegal currently sits second in Group B with eight points, two points behind leaders Sudan and one ahead of DR Congo in third place.
