Liverpool manager Arne Slot has dismissed the label of his team being the best in Europe this season, Afrosport reports.
The Dutch tactician replaced Jurgen Klopp last summer and hit the ground running with the Reds currently 13 points clear of Arsenal at the top of the Premier League while they finished top of the rebranded Champions League league phase.
Slot also led Liverpool to the EFL Cup final where they will face Newcastle United next weekend.
All these have put the Merseysiders seen as favourites to win the aforementioned titles. Slot however does not believe his team are the best in Europe but rather gave it to current Champions League holders Real Madrid.
“It’s a nice compliment to get but the best team in Europe has to win the Champions League but we are far away from that, starting with a very difficult game tomorrow and then all the difficult ones that are coming up because we have seen the draw,” he said.
“I think the best team in Europe at the moment is still Real Madrid as they won this competition last season. Someone else can say something different but, for us, we first have to win it before we can say it.”

Liverpool are preparing to face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League round of 16 first leg on Wednesday night.
The winner of the tie will face either Aston Villa or Club Brugge in the quarter-finals.
