MLS: Latte Lath, Denkey score debut goals in wins for Atlanta United, FC Cincinnati

MLS record singing Emmanuel Latte Lath scored a brace on his Atlanta United debut as they recorded a 3-2 win over CF Montreal in the 2025 season opener on Saturday night, Afrosport reports.

The Ivorian international joined Atlanta for a record $22 million from Championship club Middlesbrough and wasted no time in making his mark in the American top flight with his brace in the 42nd and 63rd minute before German-Ghanaian Prince-Osei Owusu equalised for Montreal.

Edwin Mosquera however scored the winner for Atlanta in the 85th minute off an assist from former Newcastle United winger Miguel Almiron.

Meanwhile, Togo international Kevin Denkey also scored on his MLS debut for FC Cincinnati after joining from Cercle Brugge in Belgium, netting the only goal in a 1-0 win over last season’s MLS Cup runners-up New York Red Bulls.

Among the familiar African faces in the MLS, Morocco’s Amine Bassi put Houston Dynamo ahead against FC Dallas in the Texas Derby but it was not enough as they lost 2-1 on home soil.

Ghana forward Osman Bukari scored his second MLS goal for Austin FC as they defeated Sporting Kansas City 1-0 while Burkina Faso’s Ousseni Bouda came off the bench to score the third goal for San Jose Earthquakes in a 4-0 win over Real Salt Lake.
