MotoGP: Jorge Martin looking forward to racing soon after pre-season test crash

Reigning MotoGP champion Jorge Martin said he was looking forward to recovering fast from the spectacular accident he suffered in pre-season testing in Malaysia on Wednesday, Afrosport reports.

The Spaniard fractured his right hand and bones in his left foot after he was thrown from his bike in a highside crash at the Sepang International Circuit, while testing for his new team Aprilia.

Martin appeared in good spirits as he came out in plaster and on crutches at Dexeus University Hospital in Barcelona.

“I’m good. Tired due to the trip back, but looking forward to recovering fast. I had a big impact. I was in a lot of pain, but everything went well during the trip here,” he said.

“We have a precautionary examination at the hospital and everything seemed fine, so I just need to get better here [turns and shakes the hand of on elf the doctors].

“Truthfully, I don’t know what happened. It’s a shame because it was my first run with new tyres and we didn’t get the chance to work much, but I know Marco [Aprilia teammate Marco Bezzecchi] is doing a great job and I’m sure we will find a way to be fast.”

Jorge Martin won the 2024 MotoGP championship, finishing 10 points behind two-time champion Francesco Bagnaia.

He become the first independent team rider to win the championship in the MotoGP era.
