Sergio Ramos: Ex-Real Madrid defender joins Mexican side Monterrey

Former Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has joined Mexican side Monterrey on a one-year deal, Afrosport reports.

The 38-year-old Spaniard has been without a club since his contract with Sevilla expired at the end of the 2023-24 season.

Monterrey will be the fourth club of Ramos’ illustrious career having spent 16 successful years with Real Madrid before going Paris Saint-Germain and Sevilla in a second spell.

“Monterrey Soccer Club informs our fans and the media that it has reached an agreement with the Spanish star Sergio Ramos to become a new player for the Rayados with a contract for one year,” read a statement on the club website.

“With his leadership, defensive strength, offensive ability, and winning attitude, Ramos arrives in Monterrey in search of making history with the Blue Team.

“Welcome Sergio Ramos!”

Ramos will wear the number 93 shirt at Monterrey in celebration of the injury time goal he scored in the Champions League final against Atletico Madrid in 2014.

Monterrey is currently managed by former Argentina centre-back Martin Demichelis and sit in 10th place on the Liga MX standings after five games, nine points behind leaders Leon.
