NFL: Philadelphia Eagles look to deny Chiefs’ three-peat at super bowl LIX

The Philadelphia Eagles will be looking to avenge their painful loss to the Kansas City Chiefs two years ago and stop the reigning champions from winning an unprecedented third straight title at Super Bowl LIX on Sunday.

The Eagles, in their fourth trip to the Super Bowl, lost 38-35 to the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII at the State Farm Stadium in Arizona in February 2023.

Philadelphia’s quarterback, Jalen Hurts, has been in inspired form this season, particularly in the playoffs, where he has recorded seven total touchdowns and has yet to record an interception.

He, however, is relishing the challenge of playing the Chiefs again, stating that they are trying to “find ways to win’ and not repeat the same mistakes from before.

“We’ve been able to play disciplined ball,” said Hurts when asked about what he has learnt from his first Super Bowl defeat.

“We’ve been able to play ball and be on the same page and find ways to win. And we’re just looking forward to doing that one more time.”

Philadelphia defeated the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship game to reach their second Super Bowl in three years, while the Chiefs put on a late show in the AFC Championship game to overcome the Buffalo Bills and reach their fifth Super Bowl in the past six seasons.

“You know, when you watch their [Kansas City] tape, you get a lot of respect for their coaches because you can see how detailed they are,” stated Eagles’ head coach Nick Sirianni.

“You know, the Chiefs are in all those areas as well. And we pride ourselves on that, too. So, you know, it’ll be a good battle.

On his strategies to win his team the game, he added, “You know, again, we don’t really care how we win. We just want to win.”

The modern-day foes will rekindle their rivalry at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans in Super Bowl LIX on Sunday, with Grammy award-winning artist Kendrick Lamar performing at the halftime show.
