Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim on Thursday revealed that it was his decision for the club not to sign any more players in the January transfer window, Afrosport reports.
United signed only two players in the winter transfer window—18-year-old centre-back Ayden Heaven from Arsenal and 20-year-old wing-back Patrick Dorgu from Lecce.
The Red Devils, however, sanctioned the departures of Antony and Marcus Rashford on loan to Real Betis and Aston Villa, respectively, with many fans left frustrated at the lack of incomings at the club.
Amorim, who said the club hierarchy was “trying everything” to strengthen the squad during the January window, revealed that it was his call to not sign more players.
“We are taking a risk but we want a different thing in the team, different profiles. It was my decision to do that,” said Amorim.
“What I feel is that the club is taking its time. We know the urgency of the moment of the team (but) everybody here does not want to make the same mistakes of the past.
“In the summer we will see but like I said we are being really careful with transfers because we did some mistakes in the past.”

United are through to the last 16 in the Europa League but sit 13th in the Premier League and have lost seven of the 13 games they have played since Amorim took over in November.
The 40-year-old Portuguese coach said he is aware of the current situation of things at the club and admitted that he is “fighting for his job” in the second half of the season.
“We are fighting for our jobs until the summer,” he said. “I’m not naive, I said that many times, this is a sport of results and we are in a difficult situation.
“I know when I choose this profession that you have the risk of results and I knew when I came here, I look at the schedule, I look at the team, and I understood my decision of changing everything in the middle of the season without new signings it is a danger for a coach.
“But since day one, with good results or bad results, I have a clear idea of what I want to do and I take these risks because in the end I think it’s going to pay off.”
United are in action on Friday against Leicester City at Old Trafford in the fourth round of the FA Cup, and it is left to see whether Dorgu and Heaven will make their team debuts.
