Man City complete £59 million signing of Omar Marmoush from Frankfurt

Manchester City on Thursday announced the signing of Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt for a reported fee of £59 million (€70 million), Afrosport reports.

Marmoush has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal, with City until June 2029, with the contractual add-ons rising to £4 million.

The 25-year-old has been one of the best forwards in European football this season with 20 goals and 14 assists across 26 matches in all competitions, including 15 goals in 17 Bundesliga games.

“This is a day I will never forget,” Marmoush told the club website. “To sign for Manchester City – one of the best teams in the world – is an amazing feeling. I am delighted, my family are so proud, and we are all very happy to be here in Manchester.

“With Pep [Guardiola], his technical staff and the world-class facilities here, players have everything they need to improve. That was really enticing for me when I had the chance to come here.

“I really am looking forward to getting going, meeting the other players and showing the Manchester City fans what I can do.”

Marmoush broke into limelight as a 17-year-old playing for Egyptian club Wadi Degla. It was there he caught the eye of European clubs, before signing for VfL Wolfsburg in 2020.

He had loan spells at FC St Pauli and VfB Stuttgart before signing for Frankfurt in 2023, scoring 17 goals in 41 matches in his first season.

Txiki Begiristain, City’s Director of Football said: “Omar is an accomplished and exciting forward, and I’m delighted he’s joining us.

“He has all the attributes a top-class attacker requires. He has outstanding pace and awareness, and he is exceptional in front of goal. He can also play a number of different positions, which is a really valuable asset.”

Marmoush, who is City’s first Egyptian player, will wear the No. 7 Jersey during his time at the Etihad.

He becomes the third arrival at the Etihad Stadium in the January transfer window following the signings of Brazilian defender Vitor Reis and Uzbekistan defender Abdukodir Khusanov.

The Egypt International made his national team debut in 2021 and has since played 35 times for the Pharaohs, scoring six goals and providing three assists.

He is expected to be available on Saturday when City host Chelsea in the Premier League, but will have to wait a little longer to make his European debut as he cannot be registered for next week’s crucial Champions League encounter against Club Brugge.
