F1: Hamilton drives Ferrari car for the first time

Lewis Hamilton made his debut behind a Ferrari on Wednesday morning during a test at Fiorano to begin his stint with the Italian marque, Afrosport reports.

Despite foggy weather conditions, passionate Ferrari fans flocked to the private race track in their thousands to catch a glimpse of the seven-time F1 world champion.

Hamilton drove the SF-23 which was used by Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz during the 2023 F1 season and will be able to cover up to 1,000 kilometres in mileage per the regulations.

While the 2023 car was not as competitive as the 2024 model, it will enable the 40-year-old to adapt to a different cockpit configuration after 12 successful years with Mercedes that produced six world championships.

He will however hope that the 2025 challenger, which will be unveiled next month, will be more competitive and give him a push towards the elusive eighth world championship title.

Hamilton will have his first taste of the latest car at the pre-season test in Bahrain next month before the season proper commences at the Australian Grand Prix on March 16.
