UCL: Borussia Dortmund dismiss Nuri Sahin after loss to Bologna

UCL: Arteta happy with Nwaneri return ahead of Dinamo Zagreb clash

Borussia Dortmund have dismissed head coach Nuri Sahin after their 2-1 loss to Bologna in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night, Afrosport reports.

The loss was Dortmund’s fourth in a row since the start of the new year which dropped them down to 13th in the Champions League standings.

They have also dropped to 10th in the Bundesliga standings following defeats to Bayer Leverkusen, Holstein Kiel and Eintracht Frankfurt.

Dortmund sporting director Lars Ricken said in a statement on the club website said: “We really value Nuri Sahin and his work, we had wished for a long cooperation and until recently we hoped that we could manage to turn things around in sporting terms.

“After four losses in a row, with just one win from the last nine games and currently being 10th in the Bundesliga, unfortunately we lost our faith in being able to achieve our sporting goals in the current configuration. This decision is personally painful for me too, but it was no longer avoidable after the game in Bologna.”

Sahin, who was previously assistant to Terzic, took over last June following the latter’s resignation after Dortmund lost 2-0 to Real Madrid in last season’s Champions League final.

Dortmund Under-19 coach Mike Tullberg will temporarily take charge for Saturday’s Bundesliga game against Werder Bremen at Signal Iduna Park.
