How Eberechi Eze set Premier League assist record for Crystal Palace a second time

Premier League: Justin Kluivert joins elite list with hat-trick in Bournemouth win over Newcastle

Eberechi Eze provided an assist as Crystal Palace defeated West Ham United at the London Stadium in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon, Afrosport reports.

After a goalless first half, Eze set things up for Jean-Philippe Mateta to score the opening goal in the 48th minute.

Eze’s assist was the eighth time he did so for Mateta which is the most by any Crystal Palace player to his teammate in the Premier League.

It mirrors the same number of assists the 26-year-old England international provided for Michael Olise while they were teammates at Selhurst Park before his departure to Bayern Munich last summer.

Mateta went on to complete his brace from the penalty spot after former Arsenal forward and substitute for Eze, Eddie Nketiah, was brought down in the box.

Reflecting on the the contribution of Eze and Mateta who now have 16 goal involvements between them, Palace boss Oliver Glasner said: “…In the second-half we were talking about overloading and finding good positions, and there’s a build-up from the back and it starts and when Ebs [Eze] gets the ball, he’s completely free because he’s moving into the free space, and then he can make pressure on the defence, and then JP [Mateta] is always running.”

Crystal Palace have now moved above Manchester United into 12th place and are 11 points clear of the relegation zone. They will next host Brentford in another London derby.
