NFF to unveil Eric Chelle as Super Eagles head coach on Jan. 13

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has chosen Monday, 13 January, as the date to unveil new Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle in a ceremony scheduled for the Media Conference Room of the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja at 11 am.

Chelle was confirmed as the new Super Eagles boss on Tuesday after the NFF Executive Committee approved the recommendation of its Technical and Development Sub-Committee.

The 47-year-old has a daunting task ahead of him, but NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, on Sunday, reiterated that the appointment of the Malian is in line with the body’s new objectives and goals for the Super Eagles in the new year.

“We appreciate the fact that Nigerians are very passionate about the game of football, and that is the reason for the different tones of reactions following the appointment of Coach Chelle,” said Gusau. “However, the NFF hereby appeals to Nigerians to come together and support him, as we believe he has the qualities to achieve success with the Super Eagles.

“The NFF will give him all the support that he needs to succeed in the job.”

As well as unveiling Chelle, the NFF on Monday will also announce his coaching cabinet, with the crew expected to lead Nigeria’s CHAN Eagles at next month’s African Nations Championship (CHAN) before turning their attention to the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, where the Super Eagles still have six matches to play, beginning with two games in March against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

Chelle, who had to leave his role with Algerian side MC Oran to take up the vacant Super Eagles job, led the Eagles of Mali to the quarterfinals at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where they were eliminated by hosts and eventual winners, Ivory Coast.
