FA Cup: Manchester City put eight unreplied goals past Salford City

It was a walk in the park for Manchester City as they defeated Salford City 8-0 in the FA Cup third round on Saturday evening, Afrosport reports.

An early goal by Jeremy Doku put the Citizens ahead after he controlled the ball on the edge of the box after receiving a pass from Jack Grealish. He created a yard for himself and found the right side of the post.

Twenty-one minutes into the match, Divin Mubama netted the second for the hosts after being found with a sublime pass by Matheus Nunes.

City kept pushing for more, and it came through as Nico O’Reilly netted the third, with Doku the provider this time.

Salford City’s horror continued in the second half as defender Curtis Tilt’s horrible pass to Matt Young was quickly intercepted by Mubama, who found Grealish and was brought down in the box.

It left the referee no choice but to award a penalty, and Grealish made no mistake in converting into the bottom left corner of the net.

Two minutes after the hour mark, James McAtee made it 5-0 after Doku drilled in a beautiful cross which McAtee connected with.

Man City was awarded another penalty after Tilt was penalised for handball after Doku’s shot hit his hand. Doku was charged with the penalty duties this time and sent it past goalkeeper Mathew Young.

The goals kept raining at the Etihad Stadium as McAtee intercepted Phill Foden’s shot with Tilt playing him onside for his second goal of the evening.

City wrapped up the scoring in the 81st minute with a hattrick for McAtee as the number 87 finished off from Grealish’s cross.

The result we the first time City scored eight goals in an FA Cup match in 92 years. The reigning Premier League champions will next travel to Brentford for a top-flight encounter on Tuesday.
