FA Cup: Rico Henry to start for Brentford following 16-month injury absence

Rico Henry will start in his first game for Brentford in more than a year after as he was included in the Bees squad for the FA Cup third-round tie against Plymouth Argyle on Saturday, Afrosport reports.

The left-back has been out of action since September 2023, when he suffered a serious knee injury just as he was close to a first England call-up.

There have been a few attempts to have Henry back in action only to suffer some setbacks. However, Brentford boss Thomas Frank has confirmed he will be in the starting XI at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday.

“Rico will be involved in the game tomorrow; not only will he be involved, he will start,” The Danish tactician said ahead of the game with Plymouth.

“That’s a big boost for him, us and the fans. He has been good in training; he is very aggressive, as he always is. He played an in-house game and also a friendly with the B team.

“In general, he’s looked good and ready to start. If he wasn’t good enough, we wouldn’t start him.”

Rico Henry has been on the books of Brentford since 2016, playing a total of 203 games in all competitions, scoring five goals and providing 11 assists, also helping the team win Premier League promotion in 2021.

The 27-year-old has a year left to go on his existing contract with the option of an additional year.
