Amorim uncertain about Mainoo future at Manchester United

FA Cup: Darren Ferguson defends decision not to play Tyler Young against his father

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim is uncertain about the future of Kobbie Mainoo as he has been linked with a move out of the club in the January transfer window, Afrosport reports.

The Englishman was linked with a move to Chelsea this week, according to reports, as United are still looking for a suitable solution for the player as regards his contract.

The Red Devils were able to extend the contracts of Amad Diallo and Harry Maguire; however, the case is otherwise with Mainoo, who is still on a reported £20,000 per week contract that has less than three years left.

Although reports confirmed that United are working on increasing his wages given the fact that he is very key to any project they have going at the club.

However, United need to sell some home grown players to get complete liberty to buy in the transfer market.

“Our idea is always to keep the best players and the players we build for this club,” Amorim said ahead of United’s FA Cup trip to Arsenal on Sunday.

“But we know the position the club is in at the moment. We will see.”

Amorim wants to keep Mainoo as he acknowledges his quality and identifies him as a “talent”.

Furthermore, United know the controversy that selling Mainoo will spring up at the club as he is a very vital part of the squad.

“I really love my players,” added Amorim. “I want to keep them, especially the talented ones.

“It is a hard moment and I am really happy with Kobbie. He is improving.”

United are off the back of an impressive 2-2 draw with Liverpool at Anfield last weekend but still sees them sit in 13th place on the table.
