Emmanuel Agbadou completes £16.6 million transfer to Wolves from Reims

Wolverhampton Wanderers have completed the signing of Ivory Coast defender Emmanuel Agbadou from French Ligue 1 side Reims in a deal worth a reported £16.6 million, Afrosport reports.

Agbadou joins on a four-and-a-half-year contract with an option to extend for a further year, making him head coach Vitor Pereira’s first signing since joining the club in December 2024.

“After the journey’s had, he’s still unbelievably hungry. He’s the type of player the Wolves fans should love, because you’re going to get absolutely everything he’s got, Wolves Sporting director Matt Hobbs said on the club website.

“When Vitor came in it’s the first conversation we had, to add one quick. There are so many games in January, so you can’t afford to waste a month.

“We have to use this month to be as efficient as possible, and we’re really excited about this signing.”

Wolves have lacking in the defensive department after losing Max Kilman to West Ham United last summer, as well as Yerson Mosquera‘s season-ending injury in September.

Abgadaou spent two years at Reims, having joined the French club from Belgian side KAS Eupen in 2022. He scored three goals in 80 appearances for Reims, who are currently 11th in the Ligue 1 standings and eight points away from top four.

The 27-year-old, however, joins Wolves, who are just out of the Premier League relegation zone on goal difference, after suffering a 3-0 defeat at home to Nottingham Forest on Monday.

In addition, Pereira’s side will travel to Bristol City on Friday in the FA Cup before shifting their attention to the Premier League as they’ll be traveling to Newcastle United on January 15.
