Experienced forward Sikiru Alimi opened the scoring for the Sky Blue Stars, converting a penalty just before half-time after Frank Mawuena was brought down in the box.
Olamilekan Adedayo then sealed victory for the hosts in the 67th minute, deservedly getting his name on the scoresheet having worked tirelessly to help Remo Stars secure a famous Southwest derby win.
Daniel Ogunmodede’s side moved back to the top of the NPFL with 26 points, the same as second-placed Rivers United, who held to a 1-1 draw by Sunshine Stars at their adopted home, the Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu Ode.

In Wednesday’s other games, Nasarawa United beat Bendel Insurance 2-1; Kwara United pipped Heartland 1-0; and Akwa United left it late to record a 1-0 victory over Plateau United thanks to a 99th-minute goal from Friday Apollos at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.
In Umuahia, Anthony Ujoma and Ojonugwa Adejoh were on target as Abia Warriors claimed a 2-0 win against Katsina United, and Bayelsa United thrashed Niger Tornadoes 4-1 with goals from James Emo, Magbisa Wisdom, Sadiq Auwal, and Rabiu Abdullahi securing maximum points for the hosts at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenegoa.
