Madugu invites 20 players for Super Falcons friendly against France’s Les Bleues

WAFCON 2024 Qualifiers: Super Falcons edge closer with comfortable victory over Cape Verde

Super Falcons interim head coach Justine Madugu has invited 20 players for their international friendly match against France’s Les Bleues on Saturday, November 30.

Madugu has called upon goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, defenders Osinachi Ohale and Ashleigh Plumptre, midfielders Christy Ucheibe and Jennifer Echegini, and forwards Gift Monday and Rinsola.

Everton midfielder Toni Payne has also been called up alongside Rofiat Imuran and Shukurat Oladipo, who both featured for Nigeria’s Falconets at the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia in September.

Other invited players include US-based defender Michelle Alozie, Galatasaray defender Oluwatosin Demehin, midfielder Adoo Yina, and forwards Mercy Omokwo and Ifeoma Onumonu

Meanwhile, team captain Rasheedat Ajibade was not invited as she continues to recover from injury, as well as US-based forward and six-time African Player of the Year Asisat Oshoala.

According to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), all the invited players will jet out directly to France for the match and will be joined by the coaching crew and backroom staff.

The Super Falcons will fly to France to take on Les Bleues at the Stade Raymond Kopa in Angers, with kick-off set for 9.30pm local time (same time in Nigeria).

It is important to recall that the Super Falcons on Friday were drawn in Group B of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) alongside Tunisia, Algeria and Botswana.

The nine-time African champions will use the high calibre friendly against France as preparation for the next year’s WAFCON in Morocco.
