Bayern’s Joao Palhinha sidelined for several weeks with muscle injury

Bayern Munich have announced that midfielder Joao Palhinha will be sidelined for several weeks after suffering an adductor injury while on international duty, Afrosport reports

The former Fulham midfielder sustained the injury while training with Portugal, forcing him to withdraw from the squad and miss both of their UEFA Nations League fixtures against Poland and Croatia.

“FC Bayern’s medical department has confirmed that Joao Palhinha suffered a torn muscle fibre in his right adductor while training with the Portugal national team. The midfielder will therefore be sidelined for the coming weeks,” read a statement on the club website.

Palhinha joined Bayern in the summer, has made 13 appearances for the Bavarians giants in all competitions.

Vincent Kompany’s side have however been boosted by the return of Aleksandar Pavlovic to first-team training over the international break but is still not fully fit.

They currently top the Bundesliga, five points ahead of RB Leipzig and will have a busy schedule ahead of them with four matches in 11 days.

It starts with a Bundesliga tie at home to Augsburg on Saturday before facing Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League next weekend. It is then followed by a league clash against rivals Borussia Dortmund and a DFB Pokal clash with Bayer Leverkusen.
