Victor Osimhen ties Segun Odegbami on Nigeria’s all-time goalscoring chart

AFCON 2025 qualifiers: Super Eagles seal qualification as Osimhen secures point against Benin

Victor Osimhen further etched his name in the history books of Nigerian football as the Galatasaray forward became the country’s joint-second all-time top scorer, Afrosport reports.

The 25-year-old, who spared the Super Eagles’ blushes in their 1-1 draw against Benin Republic in matchday five in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, ties former Nigerian international Segun Odegbami on 23 goals in the all-time goalscoring chart.

With time running out against the Cheetahs, Osimhen, who had missed a glorious chance in the first half, rose highest to head home a cross from Moses Simon in the 81st minute to earn a point for Nigeria.

The reigning African Footballer of the Year now has 34 goals contribution in 38 appearances for Nigeria, having also registered 11 assists.

Meanwhile, the legendary Odegbami, fondly referred to by his moniker, “Mathematical”, scored 23 goals in 47 appearances during his time with the Nigeria National Team, including leading the country to its first AFCON triumph in 1980.

Osimhen’s next goal for the Super Eagles will make him outright second on the all-time ranks, with only the legendary Rashidi Yekini, who scored 37 goals, ahead of him.
