Auxerre defender Gabriel Osho has expressed his delight with receiving a call-up to the Nigeria national team, the Super Eagles, Afrosport reports.
The 26-year-old received his second invitation to the team having been named to the 23-man squad for this month’s fixtures in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers by Super Eagles interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen.
Osho was previously called up to the team by Finidi George in March but was unable to make his international debut as he withdrew from the squad due to injury.
However, the former Luton Town defender is finally excited to link up with the rest of his Super Eagles teammates, adding that it is a “great honour” to represent Nigeria.
“I was invited before but couldn’t come because of injury and other things but when this invitation came, everything just aligned and I could finally join the team,” Osho told the Super Eagles media.
“I will just work as hard as I can; that’s what the fans can expect from me every single game. It’s important for everyone to work hard. For me, it’s important to put hard work into everything you do
“On the front line, you see all the big names that are there; the country is full of talented players. It’s very competitive to get called up. It’s a great honour for me because I know there are a lot of quality players.”
Osho will be hoping to make his international debut for Nigeria when they face Benin Republic and Rwanda in their final two fixtures in the qualifiers for next year’s AFCON in Morocco.
The Super Eagles will take on the Cheetahs of Benin on Thursday at the Stade Felix Houphouet Boigny in Abidjan, before hosting the Amavubi of Rwanda four days later at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
