Manchester United on Monday announced that Ruud Van Nistelrooy has left the club along with three other members of the coaching staff following the arrival of new head coach Ruben Amorim, Afrosport reports.

Van Nistelrooy joined United as an assistant manager under Erik ten Hag in the summer but rose to the rank of interim coach when his compatriot was shown the exit door last month.

The former United striker was in charge of the team for four games, finishing with an unbeaten record with three wins and one draw.

Van Nistelrooy masterminded a 5-2 win for United against Leicester City in the Carabao Cup. He led them to a 1-1 draw against Chelsea in the Premier League before securing a 2-0 win over PAOK in the Europa League and a 3-0 win against the Foxes in the league.

A statement from the club red: “Manchester United can confirm that Ruud van Nistelrooy has left the club. Ruud rejoined in the summer and has taken charge of the team for the past four matches as interim head coach.

“Ruud is, and always will be, a Manchester United legend.

We are grateful for his contribution and the way in which he has approached his role throughout his time with the club. He will always be very welcome at Old Trafford.”

The 48-year-old in recent weeks has revealed that he would be willing to continue in his assistant role under Amorim, but the Portuguese seemed to have decided against adding the former Netherlands international to his backroom staff.
