Sporting Lisbon have announced Joao Pereira as its new Manager, replacing Manchester United-bound Ruben Amorim, Afrosport reports.
The Portuguese champions announced on Monday that Pereira has been promoted from his role as reserve-team boss to fill in the void left by Amorim, who departs Lisbon after a glorious tenure at the helm of affairs.
Under Amorim, Sporting Lisbon ended a 19-year league title drought in 2021 and reclaimed it last season with a commanding performance that caught the attention of top clubs in Europe.
Over the weekend Amorim led Sporting to an astonishing 4-2 comeback win over Braga at the Estadio Municipal de Braga, maintaining their 100% league start.
Trailing 2-1 with less than 10 minutes left on the clock, Sporting showed determination to turn the tie around scoring three goals in 13 minutes to claim victory in Amorim’s final outing.
Amorim’s next adventure is at Manchester United, which just parted ways with Dutch Manager Erik Ten Hag.
