Andre Onana backs van Nistelrooy to continue at Man Utd despite Amorim’s appointment

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana says he is looking forward to continuing working with interim coach Ruud van Nistelrooy amid the uncertainty surrounding the Dutchman’s future with the English club, Afrosport reports.

Van Nistelrooy moved into an interim role with the Red Devils following the sacking of compatriot Erik ten Hag last month. He has since helped United remain unbeaten in his three games in charge, beating Leicester City 5-2, playing out a 1-1 draw with Chelsea, as well as a 2-0 win over PAOK in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday, which ended their 380-day winless streak in Europe.

The 48-year-old, who is widely revered by the United faithfuls, has made it known that he would like to remain at the club and hopefully continue in his previous role as assistant manager as his interim position comes to an end on Sunday when they take on Leicester in the Premier League with new head coach Ruben Amorim to resume a day later.

Echoing the Dutchman is Onana, who says he and his teammates are keen on working with Van Nistelrooy.

“I’d love Ruud van Nistelrooy to stay even with Amorim, 100%. He’s a very good guy, a very good coach,” Onana told TNT Sports when asked if United players would like to see Van Nistelrooy continue at the club.

“He has so much experience and he advises us a lot.

“It’s fantastic what he’s doing and the players are happy. But at the end of the day, it’s not something we can decide. The club makes the decision and we have to accept it.”

United look rejuvenated having scored eight goals in their last three games, and will look to consolidate on their recent form when they host the Foxes at Old Trafford on Sunday.
