Edo Queens arrive Morocco ahead of 2024 CAF Women's Champions League

Nigerian champions Edo Queens have arrived in the North African country of Morocco ahead of the commencement of the 2024 CAF Women Champions League this weekend, Afrosport reports.

The contingent of players and staff departed Nigeria via the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos on Thursday morning.

Edo Queens revealed the news of their arrival in Morocco on X with the caption, “Touchdown in Morocco! We have safely landed and received a warm welcome from our hosts. We’re ready, focused, and excited for the journey ahead!”

The Benin-based club, who are debutants in the competition, have been drawn in Group B alongside defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa, CBE FC of Ethiopia and Egyptian club FC Masar.

Edo Queens, led by the experienced Moses Aduku, will begin their campaign against CBE on Sunday, November 10, at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca.

They will face Masar in the second match on Wednesday, November 23, before rounding up their group stage campaign against Mamelodi Sundowns three days later.

This year’s edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League will run from November 9-23 in the Moroccan cities of Casablanca and El Jadida, with each of the eight participating teams guaranteed at least USD 150,000 and the winners set to receive an improved USD 600,000.
