Nigerian forward Goodluck Igbokwe says settling down in Portugal has been swift, adding that he is looking forward to contributing his quota in helping Rio Ave, Afrosportreports.
The former Right2Win Academy graduate joined the Portuguese side from Belgian outfit Gent last summer and has been mostly involved in actions for the Under-19 team.
Igbokwe, who has featured for Nigeria at the Under-23 level, scored two goals and registered two assists in his first five games, and the forward has maintained that he is all about helping the team whenever he gets the opportunity.
“I knew it was a different environment with a different culture, so I was ready and I’m quite impressed with what I have been able to contribute,” said Igbokwe.
“Although it’s different a bit here [in Portugal] compared to where I was coming from, but I’m settling in quickly and its really exciting.
“It’s the dream of every footballer to play at the very highest level, but I understand that I have to crawl before walking, so it’s the crawling process.”
The 22-year-old, who stated that he will continue to give his best when called upon, noted that he is looking forward to turning out for the main team and expressed confidence that “everything will happen at the right time”.
Igbokwe moved to Genk in the 2022-23 season, where he finished with 12 goals in 31 appearances in the Belgian First Amateur Division, a number that dropped to four goals in 22 matches in the 2023-24 campaign.
