West Ham’s Kudus fined & handed extra two-game ban for violent conduct

Kudus: Lopetegui confident Kudus has learnt lesson from three-game West Ham ban

West Ham United midfielder Mohammed Kudus has been handed an extra two-game ban for violent conduct in their Premier League defeat at Tottenham Hotspur last month, the Football Association said on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old, who received a red card in the match against Spurs and was originally serving an automatic three-match ban, has also been fined £60,000 for “acting in an improper manner and/or using violent conduct” by an Independent Regulatory Commission.

Kudus has already served a two-game ban, which ruled him out of their 2-1 home win against Manchester United and a 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

The Ghanaian, who is also set to miss their match against Everton at the London Stadium, will now sit out their Premier League games against Newcastle United on November 25 and Arsenal on November 30.

Kudus was sent off in north London on October 19 after referee Andy Madley upgraded his initial yellow card to a red following a VAR review. The former Ajax man was involved in an altercation with two Spurs players, pushing Spurs defender Micky van de Ven, whom he had initially fouled, before shoving Pape Matar Sarr in the face.

Meanwhile, the panel also fined West Ham £30,000 as they “failed to ensure their players didn’t behave in an improper and/or provocative and/or violent way”.

The FA added that both Kudus and the Hammers admitted to the charges.

The club, however, said it would not be commenting on the charge but stated that “while the club is disappointed with the outcome, it respects the process that has been undertaken.”
