AFCON 2025 Qualifiers: Uganda Cranes name 27 players for South Africa, Congo ties

Uganda national team head coach Paul Put has named a 27-man squad for their upcoming matches in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers this month, Afrosport reports.

Put included three new faces in the Uganda Cranes squad that will play South Africa and Congo Brazzaville in their final two games, with goalkeeper Mutwalibi Mugolofa, Sweden-based John Paul Dembe, and defender Geofrey Wasswa handed callups.

BK Haken forward Dembe enjoyed a successful outing at the AFCON U20 CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers in Tanzania, where he finished as the top scorer with six goals.

The Team will enter residential camp on Sunday at Cranes Paradise, Kisasi, with foreign based players joining as well, when they arrive in the country.

Uganda will host South Africa at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala on Friday, November 15, before visiting the Stade Alphonse Massemba-Débat in Brazzaville to take on the Red Devils of Congo four days later.

The undefeated Cranes currently sit atop Group K with ten points having won three games and drawn one, and they enter the final two games knowing that a draw all but secures their participation in next year’s AFCON finals in Morocco.
