Nigeria beat Ethiopia to qualify for IHF Trophy African Continental semifinals

Nigeria has secured a spot in the final of the ongoing IHF Trophy Africa Men Continental Phase following their hard-fought 44-33 win over Cameroon on Tuesday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Afrosport reports.

The defending champions under the tutelage of coach Emeka Nnamani really fought hard against a defensively minded Cameroon side from the first blast of the whistle scoring more from the wings and fast-breaks as they won the first half 22-15 despite the odds.

The second half continued in the same vein with left-back Christian Foloki Bolaji dictating proceedings with vital goals from the 9 meters and from the wings to win the match 44-33.

Foloki, who got injured after a collision with the goalkeeper of Cameroon in the last minute of the match, was voted the Most Valuable Player of the match.

Speaking to HFN Media after the match, Coach Emeka Nnamani praised his team for fighting hard against Cameroon and doing everything possible to get to the final once again.

“I am very excited that we did enough to defeat Cameroon in the semi final.

“I want to praise the boys for doing everything humanly possible and got fighting hard against Cameroon.”

“Now we will make sure we do our best in the final to qualify for the Intercontinental phase” Coach Emeka Nnamani said

Nigeria will now play Guinea in the final on Wednesday at 3pm Nigeria time.
