F1: Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso treated for infection ahead of Sao Paulo GP

Aston Martin have confirmed Fernando Alonso will once again sit out of media day for the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, Afrosport reports.

Alonso missed the Thursday media sessions in Mexico City due to illness before returning to the cockpit to compete in his 400th Grand Prix which ended prematurely due to mechanical issues with his car.

Aston Martin have now revealed the two-time World champion had suffered an intestinal infection in the run up to the weekend in Mexico and returned to Europe for further treatment.

The Silverstone-based outfit is however confident that the 43-year-old will race at Interlagos this weekend.

“Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team confirms that Fernando Alonso will miss his media day activities in Brazil,” read a statement on their X handle.

“Fernando had suffered with an intestinal infection in the lead up to the Mexico City Grand Prix.

“He returned to Europe to receive further treatment from a specialist.

“The extra day of treatment has delayed his travel plans to Brazil but ensures he will be ready for this weekend’s racing.”

Fernando Alonso sits in ninth spot in the drivers’ championship while his Aston Martin team are fifth in the constructors’ standings.
