Ligue 1: PSG given partial stadium closure over homophobic chants

The French League (LFP) on Wednesday handed Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain a partial closure of one of the stands in their Parc des Princes ground as sanction for homophobic chants from their fans.

The sanction follows a Ligue 1 match between PSG and Strasbourg on October 19, when the home team “ultras” – a section of PSG’s fans – were making homophobic chants for about 10 minutes.

The chants, however, were directed at Marseille ahead of the clash between the two French giants, which PSG won 3-0, a week later.

The LFP has ordered the sanction be imposed in PSG’s upcoming home match against Lens on Saturday, November 2.

This is not the first time this is happening as the club was also ordered by the LFP to close their ultras’ stand for one game over a similar incident last season.
