NBA Roundup: Mavericks beat Jazz; Celtics maintain perfect start with win over Bucks

The Dallas Mavericks overcame the Utah Jazz 110-102 at the American Airlines Center on Monday night to improve to 2-1 for the season.

Kyrie Irving led the Mavericks with 23 points, six rebounds, and nine assists; Klay Thompson added 18 points; and Luka Doncic, who was close to pouring in a triple-double, finished with 15 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists.

Collin Sexton finished with a team-high 23 points; Lauri Markkanen and Keyonte George added 17 points; and centre Walker Kessler ended the game with a 12-point and 11-rebound double-double.

Meanwhile, the Boston Celtics handed the Milwaukee Bucks their third defeat of the season with a 119-108 win at TD Garden.

Jaylen Brown ended with 30 points and six rebounds to become the second player in Celtics history to have at least 23 points and six rebounds in the first four games of a season, joining Larry Bird.

Payton Pritchard finished with 28 points and shot eight 3-pointers off the bench to tie Eddie House’s franchise record. Jrue Holiday got 21 points and Jayson Tatum added 15 points.

The Bucks, who dropped to 3-1, got 30 points and 10 rebounds from Giannis Antetokounmpo, while Damian Lillard finished with a game-high 33 points.

Elsewhere, at Kia Center in Orlando, the Magic rallied to a 119-115 win over the Indiana Pacers to record their third win of the season.

Paolo Banchero finished with a career-high 50 points while grabbing 13 rebounds and dishing out nine assists to add to 25 points from Jalen Suggs.

The Pacers, who dropped to 3-1, were led by Pascal Siakam’s 26 points and nine rebounds, while Tyrese Haliburton added 19 points, nine rebounds, and 10 assists.

In the other games, the Washington Wizards beat the Atlanta Hawks 121-119; Miami Heat defeated the Detroit Pistons 106-98; Denver Nuggets secured a 127-125 win in overtime against the  Toronto Raptors; Cleveland Cavaliers beat New York Knicks 110-104; Houston Rockets beat San Antonio Spurs 106-101; Chicago Bulls beat Memphis Grizzlies 126-123; Sacramento Kings beat Portland Trail Blazers 111-98; and the Phoenix Suns got their revenge over the Los Angeles Lakers 109-105 at Footprint Center.
