UEL Round-up: Mourinho sent off as Fenerbahce hold Man Utd; Spurs pip 10-man Alkmaar

Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho was sent off as Turkish club Fenerbahce held Manchester United to a 1-1 draw at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium in matchday three in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday.

Mourinho, who was up against his former side, got his marching orders in the second half after reacting to a penalty claim for his team as Nigerian defender Bright Osayi-Samuel was brought down by Manuel Ugarte.

United took the lead in the 15th minute with a sweeping strike from Christian Eriksen. The hosts came goal hunting, but a double save from Andre Onana kept them at bay in the first half. However, they eventually equalised four minutes into the second half courtesy of a thumping header from Moroccan forward Youssef En-Neysri.

Fenerbahce moved into 14th in the standings, while United, whose woes in Europe continue under Erik ten Hag, occupy the 21st spot as they have yet to record a win in the competition.

Elsewhere in North London, Tottenham Hotspur got the better of 10-man AZ Alkmaar thanks to a 53rd minute penalty from Richarlison.

The win ensured Spurs maintained their perfect start to the season as they move into second place behind Lazio, who clinched a 2-0 win in the Netherlands as goals from Pedro and Gustav Isaksen helped them past FC Twente.

Meanwhile, at Ibrox Stadium in Scotland, Rangers thrashed FCSB 4-0 to occupy the 11th position, thanks to a brace from Vaclav Cerny and one apiece from Tom Lawrence and Hamza Igamane.

A 23rd minute penalty from Artem Dovbyk was enough to hand Roma a 1-0 home win over Dynamo Kyiv; Hugo Larsson scored the only goal as Eintracht Frankfurt beat RFS 1-0 in Germany; John Pacheco and Sergio Gomez scored for Real Sociedad in their 2-1 win over Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Nigerian forward Chuba Akpom was on the scoresheet as Ajax beat 10-man Qarabag 3-0 with Kenneth Taylor and Wout Weghorst scoring the rest; Tiago Djalo and Samu Omorodion scored as Porto secured their first win with a 2-0 victory over Hoffenheim; and Nico Williams scored the only goal as Athletic Club beat Slavia Prague 1-0.
