U20 WAFU B: Ghana’s Black Satellites into semis as Niger beat Benin in Group A

Ghana’s Under-20 men’s team, the Black Satellites, secured a 1-1 draw against hosts Togo in their final Group A match at the ongoing WAFU B U20 Championship on Wednesday, Afrosport reports.

The Ghanaians, who maintained their unbeaten start to the tournament, moved atop the group and advanced to the semifinals

The Black Satellites opened the scoring very early through Jerry Afriyie, whose sublime finish got Ghana off to a bright start.

However, Togo, fought back in the second half, responding with a beautiful equaliser from Ouzeroudine Kperedja in the 49th minute.

Meanwhile, in the other group game, Niger Republic stunned Benin Republic with an 87th minute strike from Abdoul Latif Goumey to secure a 1-0 win.

The Nigeriens clinched the all-important victory to finish as Group A runners-up and advance into the semifinals alongside Ghana.

The result moves both Ghana’s Black Satellites and Niger closer to securing a ticket to U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as only the tournament’s finalists will book a place in next year’s finals.
