Bundesliga: Boniface gets redemption for penalty miss in Leverkusen comeback win

Victor Boniface redeemed himself for missing a penalty by scoring the winner in Bayer Leverkusen’s comeback 2-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga on Saturday afternoon, Afrosport reports.

The Nigerian forward failed to convert from the spot in the ninth minute which allowed Egypt forward Omar Marmoush to score a penalty for Frankfurt nine minutes later.

Leverkusen have been renowned for comebacks under manager Xabi Alonso and they began their charge at the BayArena with Robert Andrich levelling matters in the 25th minute.

The Bundesliga champions kept knocking for the winner until the 72nd minute when Boniface powered a header past goalkeeper Kevin Trapp who saved his earlier penalty.

It took the 23-year-old to five Bundesliga goals so far this season, making him Leverkusen’s top scorer.

He will now turn his attention to the UEFA Champions League clash away at impressive debutants Brest next Wednesday.
