Joel Matip is set to bring down the curtain on his professional football career that has spanned 15 years, Afrosport reports.

The Cameroonian’s professional football journey began in 2009 with German side Schalke 04, and was among the team that won the DFB-Pokal and DFL Super Cup in 2011 as well as reaching the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

The 33-year-old made 258 appearances for Schalke, scoring 23 goals before joining Liverpool on a free transfer in the summer of 2016.

Matip departed Liverpool this summer after eight years.
