NPFL: Ahmed Musa scores twice as Kano Pillars beat Sunshine Stars

Former Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa scored a brace as Kano Pillars defeated Sunshine Stars 2-0 in a match-day five encounter in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) on Sunday, Afrosport reports.

Musa, who recently teamed up with Pillars for his third stint, netted the opener in the fifth minute and doubled the advantage six minutes after the break.

The former CSKA Moscow forward missed a 70th-minute penalty, but his heroic show was enough for Pillars to record their first win in four games.

Musa’s first spell at the club was in the 2009-2010 campaign and finished as the league’s top scorer with 18 goals.

He had another spell in the 2020-21 season and played eight games before returning to Europe where he penned a two-year-deal with Turkish side Karagumruk.

Elsewhere, Remo Stars’ excellent run came to an end after suffering a 1-0 loss at Kwara United. The Sky-Blue Stars had won four games on a bounce before the trip to Ilorin.

In other games, Lobi Stars pipped Shooting Stars 1-0, El-Kanemi Warriors held Bendel Insurance to a 1-1 draw while Enugu Rangers defeated Abia Warriors 1-0.

Rivers United won 2-1 against Akwa United, Bayelsa United forced Nasarawa United to a 0-0 draw, Heartland recorded a 2-0 win against Niger Tornadoes, Plateau United pipped Ikorodu City 1-0 just as Enyimba defeated Katsina United 3-0.
