Boniface continues impressive goalscoring form in Leverkusen draw

Victor Boniface continued impressive his goalscoring form this season as Bayer Leverkusen played out a 2-2 draw with newly-promoted Holstein Kiel in the Bundesliga on Saturday afternoon, Afrosport reports.

The Nigeria International scored the only goal in the 1-0 win at home to AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League in midweek, and wasted no time against Kiel when he opened proceedings in the fourth minute with an exquisite finish off an Exequiel Palacios’ assist.

It was the 23-year-old’s fourth league goal of the season in six games which sees him as Leverkusen’s joint Bundesliga top scorer along with Florian Wirtz.

Over all, both Boniface and Wirtz have six goals in nine games in all competitions.

Jonas Hoffmann doubled Leverkusen’s lead four minutes later before Boniface was denied a brace by VAR in the 26th minute for offside.

This proved costly for the reigning Bundesliga champions as Max Geschwill pulled one back for Kiel deep in added time in the first half before Jann-Fiete Arp made it 2-2 from the penalty spot in the 69th minute.

The result sees Leverkusen drop down to fifth in the standings and are two points behind record Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich who visit Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday.
