Saudi Pro League: Troost-Ekong scores first Al Kholood goal in defeat to Al Hilal

Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong scored his first goal in the colours of Al Kholood but it was not enough as they lost 4-2 to reigning Saudi Pro League champions Al Hilal on Saturday, Afrosport reports.

The 31-year-old was making his sixth consecutive start for the club since joining on a free transfer from Greek Super League champions PAOK FC in the summer.

Things however did not go well for Al Kholood on their own turf as Al Hilal scored three goals in the closing eight minutes of the first half courtesy of Senegal defender Kalidou Koulibaly, Brazilian winger Malcom and Saudi defender Ali Al Bulayhi.

The reigning Saudi Pro League champions added one more through former Atletico Madrid left-back Renan Lodi before Al Kholood got their consolation goals from Hammam Al Hammami in the 71st minute and a Troost-Ekong penalty in the 87th minute.

The result sees Al Kholood record their third loss of the season after five games with one win and one draw which sees them in 12th place on the log but one point shy of the relegation zone.

Al Hilal meanwhile have a 100% record and are three points clear of 2023 champions Al-Ittihad.
