Kylian Mbappe: Real Madrid forward out for weeks with hamstring injury

Champions League: Mbappe, Vinicius, Haaland & other players to watch out for

Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe will be out for at least three weeks with a hamstring injury he suffered during their 3-2 win against Alaves at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday.

Mbappe scored Los Blancos’ second goal in the 40th minute to lead them to their fifth consecutive win in all competitions, but the former Paris Saint-Germain man was replaced in the 80th minute by Turkey international Arda Guler.

Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti downplayed any worries of injury to the French forward after Tuesday’s game. He said: “He’s fine – a little overloaded. He asked me for the change to avoid problems.”

However, according  to Madrid’s medical report released earlier today, Mbappe has suffered an injury to the biceps femoris in his left leg.

A club statement read: “Following tests carried out today by Real Madrid’s Medical Services on our player Kylian Mbappé, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the biceps femoris in his left leg. His progress will be monitored.”

The World Cup winner will miss his first-ever Madrid derby against Atletico Madrid in La Liga scheduled to take place at the Metropolitano Stadium on Sunday. They will be away to Lille in the Champions League next Tuesday before taking on Villarreal in the league just before October’s international break.

Mbappe, who struggled in his opening matches for Madrid, has scored six goals in his last seven games in all competitions.
