CAF Confederation Cup: Enyimba advance into group stage

NPFL: Enyimba begin title defense against Bendel Insurance

Nine-time Nigerian champions Enyimba advanced into the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup after a 3-2 penalty shootout win against Etoile Filante of Burkina Faso in the second leg of the second preliminary round on Sunday, Afrosport reports.

Yemi Olanrewaju’s side drew 0-0 with their West African counterparts in the first leg in Bamako, and both teams also failed to score in the second leg at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.

The People’s Elephants will get to know their group stage opponents when the draw comes up at the CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt on Monday, October 7.

In other CAF Confederation Cup games, Stade Malien beat Paynnesville FC 3-2 on aggregate, Zamalek advanced after beating Police Machine of Kenya 3-1 over two legs, RS Berkane won 5-0 against Dadje FC of Benin Republic and advanced 7-0 on aggregate.

CS Sfaxien of Tunisia advanced at the expense of Rukinzo of Burundi with a 2-0 aggregate scoreline, Simba SC defeated Al Ahli Tripoli 3-1, Al Masry beat Al Hilal 3-2 on penalties, USM Alger recorded a 2-1 win over Stade Tunisien, Jaraaf FC defeated Abidjan Racing 3-0, ASEC Mimosas advanced after beating Kara FC 3-2, just as CS Constantine beat Nsoatreman FC 3-0 on aggregate.


Sekhukhune United lost 2-1 to Desportivo Lunda, Stellenbosch advanced after beating AS Vita Club 3-1, Bravos Maquis beat Saint Eloi Lupopo 3-1, while Otoho d’oyo advanced on away goal rules after a 2-2 scoreline with Black Bulls Maputo.
