Rashford hopes for consistency after rediscovering Man United goalscoring form

Marcus Rashford hopes to have more consistency in front of goal after netting a brace in Manchester United’s 7-0 bashing of Barnsley in the EFL Cup round on Tuesday night, Afrosport reports.

The England forward was joined by Alejandro Garnacho and Christian Eriksen in scoring twice, while Antony scored from the penalty spot after Rashford handed the responsibility to the Brazilian winger.

He has now scored three goals in two games after ending a 13-game goal drought in the 3-0 win over Southampton at the weekend.

When asked if he can maintain his goalscoring form when United travel to Crystal Palace on Saturday, the 26-year-old said: “It’s early to say but I hope so. We’ll move onto the next game now and just rest, recover and focus on the next one.

“Football is football – sometimes you have ups and, sometimes, you have downs. We have to use these games to find momentum, find consistency and try your best to bring your best level in each game.”

Reflecting on the attacking prowess of United against Barnsley, manager Erik ten Hag praised them for their chemistry and believes they can do a lot of fantastic things together.

“I think they are very ambitious. Very hungry, but you can see they give each other the ball. They want to also give assists and also give each other the opportunity to score a goal,” the Dutch tactician said.

“Like the penalty, when Antony needs some confidence, then Rashy gives the pen to Antony, which is good in a team that they are with each other, they are together.

“It seems how this team is together. Antony has some difficulties because he has to fight for his place and then the players decided themselves they want to encourage him and give him some confidence. They want to show you are also part of this. We are together. It’s a long season and we need everyone.”

With back-to-back victories, pressure has been relieved off Ten Hag a bit after Premier League losses to Brighton & Hove Albion and Liverpool.
