Shooting Stars midfielder Uche Onwuasoanya is confident that the club can win the 2024-25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title despite their slow start to the season.
The Oluyole Warriors recorded a 1-1 draw away at Nasarawa United in their league opener, before they were forced to another 1-1 draw in Ibadan on Sunday by Plateau United.
Onwuasoanya, who scored the team’s equaliser against his former club Plateau United, expressed his dissatisfaction with the result despite finding the back of the net. However, the 24-year-old remains upbeat about a fruitful season.
“I feel bad despite scoring a goal, drawing a match at home feels like a loss,” Onwuasoanya said in an interview posted on X by @3scfanstv. “We are going to do better in our next home game and make our fans proud”.
“I want to say thank you to the fans; I promise we will make them proud, it’s our first game at home in the season, and you know it’s always a little bit hard, but I know our second game we will make them proud, our target is to win the League”.
In other games played at the weekend, Katsina United defeated Bendel Insurance 2-1, while Bayelsa United battled to a 1-1 draw with visiting Kano Pillars.
Niger Tornadoes and Nasarawa United drew 0-0, Akwa United were held to a 1-1 draw by Abia Warriors, Rivers United thrashed Heartland 3-2, and Remo Stars pipped Sunshine Stars 1-0.
