Done Deal: Nigeria’s Tanimu Benjamin joins Crawley Town from Tanzanian club

Super Eagles defender Tanimu Benjamin has joined English League One side Crawley Town from Tanzanian side Singida Black Stars, Afrosport reports.

According to reports, the acquisition of the former Bendel Insurance defender will cost Crawley $850,000, with the 22-year-old having agreed to a two-year-deal with the option of an additional year.

“Our club has entered into an agreement with the CRAWLEY TOWN FC club in the UK that participates in LEAGUE ONE to sell our Nigerian player BENJAMIN TANIMU,” Singida Black Stars announced on Friday.

“The agreement, with a direct transfer fee (Direct Fee) and a Sell-on Fee of 20%, as well as fees for the quality and success of the player and the team for the next two seasons, is estimated at not less than $850,000.”

Tanimu spent six years at Nigerian club side Bendel and helped them to topflight promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) from the Nigeria National League (NNL) in 2019.

He was also instrumental in helping Bendel win the Federation Cup in 2023, defeating Enugu Rangers 1-0 in the final at the Stephen Keshi stadium, Asaba, Delta State.

The defender, who can play across the backline, has earned three international caps with the Super Eagles since he made his debut in 2023.  Tanimu has already travelled to England to team up with his new teammates.
