Joao Cancelo: Portuguese completes permanent move to Al-Hilal from Man City

Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal have announced the signing of Portugal international Joao Cancelo in a permanent transfer from Manchester City.

Al-Hilal reportedly sign the full-back to a three-year contract in a deal worth €25 million with a net salary package up to €15 million.

“I would like to wish everyone at City continued success in the future'” Cancelo told City media before completing his move to Al-Hilal.

“I had many very special moments during my time here at this great Club.

“I would like to thank my team-mates, the coaches, all the staff at City and the fans for everything during my time here.”

Cancelo, the most expensive right-back in world football, moved to City from Juventus in 2019 having won the Serie A title in the 2018-19 season.

He departs the Etihad Stadium after winning five titles, including three Premier League titles, one FA Cup and one English Football League (EFL) Cup.

The Portuguese defender spent last season on loan in La Liga with Barcelona, after playing in Germany in a six-month deal with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in the 2022-23 season.

The 30-year-old made 154 appearances for City, scoring nine goals and providing 21 assists for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Cancelo will reunite with fellow countryman Ruben Neves at Al-Hilal as the reigning Saudi Pro League champions will be looking to lay their hands on another silverware this season.
